1. Care at home
Be Prepared to Care for Yourself at Home
A well-stocked medicine cabinet and plenty of rest can help you manage many common minor illnesses and injuries without needing to see a GP.
You can often treat the following at home:

Coughs or colds

Upset stomach
-
Pain or headaches
-
Minor cuts and grazes
-
Sore throat (if it lasts two weeks or more, contact your GP)
Have you tried over-the-counter remedies?
Pharmacy medicines such as cold and flu relief, eye drops for conjunctivitis, or pain relief can be very effective for common symptoms.

Your Local Pharmacy Can Help
Pharmacists are trained professionals who can provide expert advice and support for a wide range of minor health concerns. You can speak to them about:

Medication queries – dosage, suitability, or urgent needs

Help with repeat prescriptions

Sore or red eyes (see an optician if it persists)

Runny nose or mild cold symptoms

Diarrhoea or an upset stomach

Insect bites or stings

Support after hospital discharge

2. Pharmacy First Service
You can access the Pharmacy First Service by attending or contacting the pharmacy directly without the need for referral.
The following table shows the 7 conditions pharmacists can manage across various age ranges.

Infected insect bites | 1 year and over |
Shingles | 18 years and over |
Sinusitis | 12 years and over |
Sore throat | 5 years and over |
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections | Women 16-64 years |
* Distance selling pharmacies will not complete consultations for acute otitis media.
A trained pharmacist prescriber can issue prescriptions and medications such as antibiotics for the above. When you have a consultation with them, the practice will receive a full report which is added to your medical record.
3. Book a GP appointment
You can now request advice, treatment, sick notes, GP letters, recent test results, and more through our GP online booking system. Simply complete a short online form, and we’ll respond to your request by the end of the next working day.
The system is available Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 6:30 PM.
Appointments
All appointments are conducted face-to-face. However, in cases where a physical examination is not necessary, we may offer you a telephone consultation instead. Telephone appointments take place within a 2-hour time window, which will be confirmed in advance.
