GP Support

Our doctor can share information with you about different aspects of a treatment or medical procedure planned for the person you care for. They can also offer advice on the skills you need as a carer; for example, on how to change a dressing or give medication.

The person you care for can also grant you consent to share their medical information. This may be helpful if you need to speak to a doctor on their behalf. Please speak to a member of staff at the registered surgery of the person you care for on how to sign up.

Flu Vaccination

As a carer, you are entitled to a yearly flu vaccination over the winter period. Click here or contact our Patient Services Team to find out more.

NHS Health Check

If you are a carer under the age of 40 - 74 without a pre-existing condition, you can also receive a free health check under the NHS. The health check is to designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia. As we get older, we have a higher risk of developing one of these conditions. Find out more about NHS health checks on the NHS ‘One You’ website.

Proxy Online Access

If you have access to the internet, you can request to have proxy online access for the person you care for, which means that you can book their appointments and request their medication online via a computer or smartphone. To sign up for this, please come into the surgery with photo ID and ask to sign up. If the person you care for is able, they will also need to come along with photo ID so we can ensure they consent to you having this proxy access. If they are unable to come with you, please give us a call and a member of the Patient Services Team will be happy to talk through the options with you.

The person you care for can also grant you consent to share their medical information. This may be helpful if you need to speak to a doctor on their behalf. Again, to sign up for this, you will both need to come into the surgery with photo ID if possible.
