NHS 111

NHS 111 is a new service that's being introduced to make it easier for you to access local NHS healthcare services in England. You can call 111 when you need medical help fast but it’s not a 999 emergency. NHS 111 is a fast and easy way to get the right help, whatever the time.  NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.

When to use it

You should use the NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it's not a life-threatening situation.

Call 111 if:

  • you need medical help fast but it's not a 999 emergency
  • you think you need to go to A&E or need another NHS urgent care service
  • you don't know who to call or you don't have a GP to call
  • you need health information or reassurance about what to do next

For less urgent health needs, contact your GP or local pharmacist in the usual way.

If a health professional has given you a specific phone number to call when you are concerned about your condition, continue to use that number.

For immediate, life-threatening emergencies, continue to call 999.

NHS Walk-in Centre

This GP-led service offers another option for obtaining treatment. It is based in the Crawley Health Centre on Haslett Avenue (opposite the bus station) and is open seven days a week from 8.00am till 8.00pm.

Urgent Treatment Centre (24 hours)

Crawley Hospital, West Green Drive, Crawley, RH11 7DH
Tel: 01293 600385

The Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) formerly known as the Walk-in Centre is situated at Crawley Hospital (formerly the Accident and Emergency department).

It is open 24 hours a day and can deal with most minor accidents including broken bones, sprains, burns etc. It can also deal with most moderate illnesses such as infections if you cannot get to see your GP.

If you feel you have a major problem or life-threatening situation it is more appropriate to call 999 or make your way to A & E at East Surrey Hospital.

If your surgery is closed and you feel you need to see a doctor before it re-opens, please phone the surgery and you will be given instructions on how to access the out-of-hours GP service, who will either give you advice over the phone and arrange for you to be seen at the base (which is also situated at the UTC at Crawley Hospital), or arrange a home visit for you.
